EDMORE CHIJUMANI

(Zimbabwe)

Edmore Chijumani creates his wildlife sculptures at Chitungwiza Arts Centre. He was born into an artistic family, and was taught basket weaving as a child, and later found his expression in stone sculpting. Inspired by diverse fish species from tiger sharks to sardines, his work highlights the large range of locally extracted stones including: Butter Jade, Lapidolite, Verdite, Fruit Serpentine, Red Jasper, Agate and Springstone. According to Chijumani, “From my research I have learnt about fish, fish live and work as a united family and are highly reactive to any phenomenon in unison.”
Chijumani’s work has been shown in group exhibitions in Zimbabwe and North America since 2006. It is in the collections of both private and corporate buyers.
