TAWANDA MUREWA
(1981, Chitungwiza, Zimbabwe)
Tawanda Murewa grew up in a family of sculptors including his father, the late Thomas Murewa – a never ending source of inspiration. He and his brothers developed their sculpting techniques at their father’s studio in Chitungwiza. By the time Tawanda was in his teens, his sculpture began attracting the attention of foreign buyers. By 2012, he joined Chitungwiza Arts Centre. All forms of art media interest Tawanda, He not only sculpts from locally sourced stone, he draws portraits and animals as well. In his abstract work, he likes to explore interactions and family dynamics , which is interesting, given the large family of ten, he comes from.
