CYNTHIA JOSEPH

(2000, Chitunguiza, Zimbabwe)

In the tradition of Zimbabwean sculptors, there have only been a few world recognized female sculptors including Maud Mariga and Colleen Madamombe.
Recently there has been a few young female sculptors who are starting to gain recognition outside of Zimbabwe. One of these sculptors is Cynthia Joseph.
She was introduced to sculpture by Albert Augustino and she admired the tactile method of creating sculpture by hand and its required patience. She sculpts in locally sourced stone including Springstone, Green Opal and Cobalt. Her creations are mostly abstract as she likes to explore her feelings through her work’s line, colour, shape and space while honouring the inherent qualities of the stone she selects.
